The People Of Mien - SJ
SJ says she’s eye-ing us all slightly differently! Not in a shifty way either - she just loves eyes. I think my time in Qld had me reassessing what I loved about our industry and reminded me that there’s still more of me to explore at Mien.
Well what can I say…she missed us! I quizzed her upon her return. Why Mien? “I’m loving the journey and career opportunities that Mien Salon Spa has opened up for me. To be honest I couldn’t wait to get back here and with all the covid red-tape crap we had to cut through it was mission accomplished once back in cool Melbourne town. Getting back on the floor during that post-covid client surge last year was so much fun too. There was so much hair to colour and best of all our clients wanted to try new ways of seeing themselves. I think as a make up artist and a colourist Mien is a great space for me. There are so many talented artists here so it’s fun to bounce of others that know what’s what. I’m looking forward to learning something new too - having just started a course in lash extensions and brow lamination – I’m planning being a boss there!” Sounds great SJ we are looking forward to having our eyes on you too!
What’s your favourite hair and makeup look? “My makeup looks are always described as your best ‘self’ enhanced, I love a beautiful soft glam that compliments my clients’ features. In a lot of ways it’s the same for hair; but you know what, give me anything to do with curls anyday! Oh and blondes!”
What are you a master of? “Beach waves…and if only you knew the backstory to that…”
What makes you smile on the inside and out? “That’s a tough one, there’s a lot of things that make me really happy! But two things that really really make me happiest are music as well as being apart of an industry where I get to collaborate with other people daily (I’m talking clients too!)”
Where’s your heart and roots? “I’m a Westside girl turned Northside with a brief soiree in Queensland. Love the cool and fashion down here though.”
What are your skills and interests? “Well I love the foils, I’m the Junior manager and I’m the trainee Manager here at mien. I love the Pure Pro Aveda site which I’ve always learned a lot from. Digitally I learn a lot via Instagram/ U tube/ TikTok. I love learning new techniques, and to get fresh ideas when I can – TBH I really appreciate the effort so many gramers go to. I can’t deny how much I learnt through the Mien team all those years back as an apprentice when we had our regular Wednesday sessions. In fact I’m looking forward to being a part of that training process and giving back to the young ones.”
“Besides the hair and beauty industry I love body building, I love being fit. I love spray tanning body builders (Rawwl) And of course I love my grandparents!”
